ORXC Week Twelve Schedule

Congratulations to all of our JH and JV runners for a fantastic season!  At Conference last week our JV Girls and JV Boys took 1st and 2nd respectively and our JH Girls and JH Boys both took 2nd in the JH All-Star meet in Chickasaw!  It was a great way to end the season for those athletes.  Our Varsity athletes will continue racing this week at the OSAA East Regional meet on Saturday.

ORXC is hosting the meet this year to avoid driving incredibly early to Ponca City and having to run on a sus course.  Hosting lets us control the course and gives our runners a little extra sleep but we NEED HELP!  We can only pull off hosting if we have help from our JV, JH, and Varsity parents.  As of now we only have about twenty percent of the volunteers we need.  Please sign up for a two hour shift to support the program and get to watch some of the best XC athletes in the state compete.  Here is the link…

Regionals

https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60B0F4AA8A92FA1FE3-43373833-regionals

For our JH runners not racing at the JH All-Star meet, they will take some time off and then start back to off-season workouts on November 27th.  We’ll have our JH athletes come to practice on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 3:15 to 4:30 during the winter off-season.  These are optional workouts for anyone not participating in another sport.  We want to keep them running and training so they don’t lose the fitness they’ve gained this season and be more prepared for Track starting in February. I’ll send out more details regarding off-season JH workouts after the HS XC season concludes.  We’ll also send out information soon regarding an end of the season party for our JH runners.

A reminder too for our Varsity athletes competing at Regionals and State and their families just how important sleep, nutrition, and consistency are at the end of the season.  Several of them are tired from a long season of running and racing.  A multivitamin, iron supplements, and an extra hour of sleep every night can go an incredibly long way towards making them feel their best for our Championship season.

We are ALWAYS in need of snacks for our runners!  The sooner they get calories after their workout the quicker they can start to recover for the next day’s workout.  We purchase whole chocolate milk as a recovery drink with the Booster Club fee but if you’re at Sam’s or Costco and can grab some extra granola bars, fruit snacks, or crackers we could definitely use them.  Kelly Mangelson was kind enough to make a snack sign up if you’d like to help out…

ORXC Week Eleven Schedule

Congratulations to all of our JH runners for a great meet last Thursday at Chandler Park!  The boys took first and the girls squad finished third on a tough course.

We have our final meet for several of our HS and JH runners on Tuesday at the Frontier Valley Conference Championship. The meet will be held at Muskogee Hatbox Park.  The schedule is listed below.

On Wednesday the HS coaches will announce our Varsity team for Regionals.  For Regionals and State, we will only have the top 7 runners racing.  All runners, JV and Varsity both, will continue to practice until the end of the season.  We want all of those HS athletes, with the exception of any injured runners, to complete the training macrocycle all the way to the end.  The only exception will be JV runners moving on to another sport.  Those runners will need to speak with the coaches about when their XC training will end.

We’ll also send out information soon regarding an end-of-the-year pizza party for our JH runners.

ORXC is hosting the OSSAA East Regional meet at O’Brien Park on October 21st.  We’ll need help with parking, in the timing tent, and at the concession stand.  It’s a lot of work to host but it means we get to control the course and our kids don’t have to get up super early to travel several hours to race.  Kelly Mangelson is getting our volunteer list together…the link is below.  We would really appreciate the help and everyone to come out and support the team in their final two meets!

ORXC Week Ten Schedule

“Survived.” That might be the best way to describe last week.  “We survived.” Thank you again to everyone who helped out last week at the Owasso Invitational.  We had a TON of kids and schools represented.  We can only host a meet that big with parents help and we really appreciate everyone who came out to support the program and assist.  Also, thank you to all of our runners who came to help out Friday night with stadium cleanup.  That might be one of the fastest cleanups we’ve ever had.  Chile Pepper on Saturday was kind of a so -so meet.  We had several runners score lifetime PR’s and congratulations to Bella Nelson for breaking our girls 5k school record!

Fortunately, after Rim Rock, Owasso Invite, and Chile Pepper all in the span of 8 days, we get a week off before we head into our Championship season.  We’ll only have practices this week and no meets.

The Frontier Valley Conference meet will be held at Muskogee Hatbox Park on October 10th.  This will be the final race for several of our athletes.  The meet will start at 4:00 with all of our JH, JV, and Varsity runners attending.  I will send out a detailed schedule next Sunday afternoon.

As we near the end of our regular season it is incredibly important that our athletes are getting plenty of rest and great nutrition.  We want them to be at their very best in their final races.  It might not be practical for everyone but I would strongly encourage, especially our Varsity athletes who still have at least six more weeks of training, to consider getting their ferritin levels tested and taking an iron supplement.  As the season wears on it is very common for runners to struggle with low iron levels which leaves them feeling tired and sluggish in practices and races.  Even if they don’t get their levels checked a multi-vitamin and a small dose of iron taken consistently each day could really help them feel better.  Just something to be aware of.

We have made it to the best time of the year!  There are trophies to be had at the end of every race but with these next three meets those trophies mean a lot.  It’s awesome to finally have made it the final ⅓ of the season!  Best at the End!

ORXC Week Nine Schedule

Great week last week at BTW and Rim Rock…sort of!  BTW went really well with our JV and JH kids all placing in the top 2 for each race.  Rim Rock was a little crazy with storms and lightning delays but we still had some excellent performances.  Our Varsity Boys finished 12th out of 39 teams and our Varsity Girls claimed 3rd out of 37 teams.  Our JV Rim Rock runners also excelled on a muddy, difficult course.  It was a long weekend but our kids really stepped up and ran well in spite of the circumstances.

This week is our next home meet, the Owasso Invitational.  The meet will start at 4:00 on Thursday at O’Brien Park in Tulsa. We need volunteers to help out with parking, medals, water, and the concession stand.  This is the second of three meets ORXC will host this season.  We had great help with the Relays!  We love for our parents to be involved in the program.  Please consider coming out to help the team and support your athletes.  Kelly Mangelson from our Booster Club Board has set up a Sign-Up Genius for the meet…

Owasso Invitational sign-up

We’ll be taking our top 8 girls and boys to another huge race on Saturday in Fayetteville, AR for the Chile Pepper XC Festival.  Any HS runners who want to come to watch the Varsity compete are more than welcome.  We’d love to have a great group of athletes there to show their support and see some of the best teams in the region compete.

Kelly Mangelson, the previously mentioned superstar, was kind enough to make a snack sign-up if you’d like to help out…

ORXC Week Eight Schedule

Congratulations to our ORXC JH runners for an excellent meet last Friday at Choctaw!  Our boys’ 7th and 8th-grade teams both finished 2nd and our girls’ 7th and 8th-grade teams both won the meet!  Fantastic running from all those athletes!

Our JH runners will race at the Bishop Kelley Invitational on Tuesday.  Coach Graham will send out the information for that meet.  Our HS runners have our first big meet of the season this Friday and Saturday in Lawrence, KS at the Rim Rock Classic.  Runners not attending Rim Rock will race at the BTW Invitational on Thursday back at O’Brien Park.  The schedule for BTW is listed below.  The schedule for Rim Rock was sent out last week and will be sent again today in a separate text.

We are looking forward to hosting our annual Owasso Invitational on Thursday, September 28th at O’Brien Park.

BTW has also asked us to bring out our concession stand to the meet this week.  We need a few parents to help out here too.  This is an easy fundraiser.  We’ll only be selling chips and drinks.  Kelly Mangelson again, she’s a superstar, has set up a volunteer list for this volunteer opportunity…

Kelly Mangelson, the previously mentioned superstar, was kind enough to make a snack sign-up if you’d like to help out…

Finally, another Booster Club superstar, Jeff Miles, has been hard at work creating a website for ORXC and Owasso Track.  The site can be found at www.owassotfxc.com.  We want to start utilizing the website more and more as a central hub for information regarding the program.  From here on out we’ll be posting results, pics, and weekly schedules on the website.  Please go check it out.

We’re all really excited about these next few weeks!  Please help your athletes by reminding them of the importance of sleep, hydration, and nutrition then come out to watch your athletes in action!

Thank you for all you do! As always…GO RAMS!  –  Coach Collins

ORXC Week Seven Schedule

Clean Sweep!  All FOUR ORXC divisions came away with a win last week at the Camp Gruber Invitational!  We took our HS runners to Camp Gruber for the course more than anything.  The hills there on the base were a great primer for Rim Rock coming up next week.  For our JH kids though, it was fantastic to see them get a win in both the girls and boys divisions in their first meet of the year and on what will more than likely be the toughest course they run on all year.  It was a great day to be a Ram for sure!

Our HS runners will have the week off from competition.  Our JH runners will head to Choctaw on Friday for their second meet of the season.  I’ll let Coach Graham share the details for that meet when she’s ready.  Usually, we wear cut-off jean shorts and tank tops to fit in when we run at Choctaw but that will be up to Coach Graham as well.

The HS coaches are working on getting the roster together for Rim Rock.  We will be taking our top 40 runners to Kansas for our first big meet of the season on the 22nd.  I will send out a detailed itinerary next Sunday for that meet.   Any runner not going to Rim Rock will compete at the BTW on Thursday of next week.

Kelly Mangelson from our Booster Club was kind enough to make a snack sign up if you’d like to help out…

Lastly, we’ll have our monthly Booster Club meeting on Tuesday night from 6:00 – 7:00 pm at the Track/XC Fieldhouse.  Everyone is welcome to come!
