Owasso Distance Squad Week Twenty-Four Schedule

Happy Mothers’ Day to all of our Track Moms! Congratulations to all of our Regional competitors, and a huge thank you to everyone who helped at the meet yesterday! It was a long day to say the least, but we saw some fantastic competition, had a lot of laughs, and heard the bell appropriately rung, perhaps one to two times total. IYKYK. We had several PR performances and State Qualifiers. I did not see anyone have a bad race. I’m very proud of how well our athletes competed and equally grateful for the work they’ve put in to reach the end of the season, and for a select few, the end of their career.

We have a busy week with our 1600m Night, Physical Night, and State.

Tomorrow, for practice, our runners not going to State will do a quick shake-out run and some stretching, but will be finished by 2:45. For our Celebration Mile, we will meet at the Track at 7:00. If you are competing at State, you are welcome and encouraged to watch, but you will not run. This is an open event for everyone else, designed for one last, fast, celebratory race to finish the season! I’d love to have some Regional runners pace or go for a PR, but if they are done and just want to watch, I get that, too. We’ll kick off with the girls around 7:35-7:40, then follow with the boys as soon as the girls are done. We’ll have some music playing and perfect weather to close things out.

After Monday night, everyone but our State runners will be on a mandatory break. We want them to rest their legs and enjoy being high school kids for a few weeks. We will finish cleaning up the Track after Regionals and put some equipment away. Since they will not be running and can be done with practice at 2:45. We will start back to running the first week after school ends.

On Tuesday, we have Physical Night at 5:45. I STRONGLY encourage runners to get your physical at OHS and get it over with! Every year, we fight athletes until the final threat to send them back to a class if they don’t upload their physical. It’s an unnecessary fight because they know they must have a physical to participate. If athletes take care of it now, we don’t need to worry about it later!

On Thursday, we will leave for the State Meet. Athletes not running at State, will be done at 2:45 on Thursday and Friday. Friday and Saturday are competition days at Western Heights. I know it’s a long way to OKC, but if you can come watch and cheer, please do! It’s always a fun meet and definitely worth the drive.

Next week, we will have a couple of meetings with our underclassmen and upcoming seniors, graduation, and our end-of-season banquet. It’s hard to believe it’s almost over!

Thank you for all you do and GO RAMS!!!!
